Nacada has reaffirmed that the fight against drugs and substance abuse is still on.

The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse has further lauded the multiagency operation conducted in Nairobi’s Ngara area on Tuesday, which led to the seizure of 25 bags of bhang and Sh13 million.

Nacada CEO John Muteti in a statement on Wednesday said the fights require a multi-stakeholders approach.

He called on the public to volunteer information regarding any dubious activities going on in their neighbourhoods.

“Nacada would like to commend the officers drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit involved in the operation,” Muteti said.

The CEO said the operation was a demonstration of effective prompt coordination, synergy and execution of operations among government agencies in line with the one-government approach.

“The authority reiterates that the fight against alcohol and drug abuse is multipronged and calls upon all stakeholders including the public to play their role in supporting it through volunteering relevant information to authorities for prompt and decisive action.”

This comes barely hours after at least three suspects were arrested and 25 sacks of bhang seized in a police operation in the Ngara area, Nairobi on Tuesday.

The bhang weighed 466 kilograms and the police also recovered Sh13 million in cash from the house, DCI boss Mohamed Amin said.

Amin said they will treat the money as proceeds of the crime.

“The money was hidden under the mattress in one of the rooms there. The suspects will be in court Wednesday,” he said.

The raid was staged by a team of officers from a transnational organised crime unit who raided a store in the Kariowa slums Ngara area owned by a known drug trafficker.

Police said they had information the suspects were repackaging the narcotics for distribution in the city.
