Siaya County Deputy Governor William Oduol arrives in Parliament ahead of the hearing of his impeachment on June 26, 2023.

Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has called for a truce with his boss James Orengo, a day after rowdy youths stormed his office.

The rowdy youths had on Thursday attempted to attack the deputy governor after he made a comeback into his office following his foiled impeachment.

On Friday, Oduol called for peace to prevail saying he had nothing personal against anybody, including his boss.

"The attempts by the hired youths to block me from performing my constitutional functions at my office are regrettable and unfortunate," Oduol told the Star.

"I appeal for calm as I have nothing personal against anybody."

Oduol called for a conducive environment to discharge his duties as obliged by the Constitution adding that he will continue serving the people.

"I am ready to continue discharging my mandate as the deputy governor," he said.

The youths stormed Oduol's office on Thursday afternoon moments after he returned to the county for the first time since the Senate thwarted his impeachment last month.

Oduol arrived at around 3 pm on Thursday and went straight to his office where he sat for a few minutes before a group of youth stormed the office to evict him.

The move prompted his security detail to call for reinforcement from the Siaya police station.

A contingent of police officers arrived and escorted the deputy governor from his office under tight security.

Police officers sandwiched his convoy as he snaked through the streets of Siaya town while accompanied by some of his supporters.

Oduol then made a stopover in the town centre where he addressed the public while condemning the attempts to block him from accessing his office.

"We must resist attempts to be used to cause chaos in our county, we can have differences in opinion but we are one people," he said on Thursday.

On Thursday Oduol said that should he fail to reconcile with Orengo, he will not step down from the position.

Oduol insisted that everyone in the county must get used to him as the county's number two.

"I am hoping that we can reconcile with Governor Orengo but we do not, I want to tell the people of Siaya including the leadership, some of whom think I'm going to resign. I am not resigning from that seat," he said.

They must get used to William Oduol the deputy governor for the next four years. If I resign these characters are going to be emboldened. They are going to steal even more. The fact that I am there, they are scared if there's misappropriation there is some fair amount of deterrence."
