The President is expected to lead the country in celebrating Madaraka Day, which this year will be held at the newly renamed Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will be held under the theme ‘Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs'.
The President has toured Nyanza several times since last year as he seeks to woo the region into the Kenya Kwanza government.
However, there are reports that the President may have cancelled a planned meeting with Migori leaders on Thursday, May 29, 2025, following political wrangles involving local leaders.
According to the official itinerary, President Ruto was scheduled to begin his engagements with a leaders’ meeting in Migori on Thursday morning at the Sony Sugar Grounds.
The forum was expected to focus on development priorities and enhancing collaboration between the national and county governments. However, this plan now hangs in the balance.
Instead, the President will land in Kisumu to unveil the recently completed affordable housing project implemented by LapFund in Kisumu.
Just a few metres from the towering 1,300 units, his own legacy affordable housing project, implemented by the national government, is also at an advanced stage and has already begun changing Kisumu’s skyline.
President Ruto will then proceed to Ndhiwa Constituency in Homa Bay County.
His stops will include the Gor Mahia Ring Road, the launch of a Last Mile Electricity project valued at Sh2 billion, and the laying of a foundation stone for a new Technical Training Institute (TTI).
The TTI project is seen as a strategic investment aimed at increasing access to higher education in remote areas of Homa Bay and creating new opportunities for the local youth.
The President is expected to spend Thursday night at the Homa Bay State Lodge.
On Friday, May 30, President Ruto will preside over the closing ceremony of the Blue Economy Conference at Tom Mboya University (TMU) and commission a new university building.
He will also officially launch the Kenya School of Law (KSL) and TMU Maritime Centre of Excellence, a joint initiative aimed at training professionals to support the Blue Economy, which is increasingly being positioned as a key economic frontier for the country.
The Head of State will later tour the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) pier and fish market, before visiting the new Rangwe Sub-County headquarters and inspecting ongoing road infrastructure projects in the region.
On Saturday, May 31, President Ruto will host a meeting with Homa Bay leaders at the State Lodge starting at 4:00 p.m.
The national spotlight will shift to Homa Bay on Sunday, June 1, when the President leads the country in marking Madaraka Day at the Raila Odinga Stadium.
Following the official ceremony, the President will attend a state luncheon and later spend the afternoon at the MFA Wire Forest in Kasipul.
This marks the first time Madaraka Day celebrations are being held at the newly renamed Raila Odinga Stadium.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Ruto’s new allies, led by Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, camped in Homa Bay as he outlined the government's plans to transform the blue economy.
During the visit, Joho distributed assorted fishing gear to fishermen and inaugurated the new Achich Beach Management Unit offices in Homa Bay East.
“We are inviting everyone to come and join us in marking the Madaraka Day celebrations. The President will be here, and I am urging everyone to come out in their numbers to welcome him,” said Governor Gladys Wanga.
Raila Odinga Stadium, which is undergoing a major upgrade, is complete. Upon completion, it will feature newly constructed public terraces, a rehabilitated pavilion, completed parking areas, and an extended perimeter wall.
Additionally, there is improvement of over 35 kilometres of roads by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), and Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
These roads will enhance access to the stadium and other strategic locations.
