Disaster and fire officers from Kisii were Tuesday evening battling a blaze that swept through a dormitory at St Annes Nyangoge Girls in Bonchari
There are no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities.
The makeshift dorm hosts 100 students.
It was already extensively destroyed by the inferno.
A teacher said the fire started around 7.30 Tuesday evening.
"The students lost most of their personal items," he said by phone.
