Nairobi City traders have appealed to President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga to salvage the bipartisan talks and avert a return to street protests.

The protests disrupted businesses in the city centre and only stopped after Ruto agreed to talks through a bipartisan team of lawmakers.

But representatives of Azimio in the talks have threatened to pull out with Raila issuing fresh ultimatums to Ruto.

Nairobi Central District Association through its secretary general Jeremy Ochieng is apprehensive that a return to protests will hurt businesses.

Ochieng on Sunday called on Ruto and Raila to reach a consensus for the sake of peace.

"It is obvious that the majority of Kenyans have lost jobs, property, and revenue as a result of demonstrations. Nairobi for instance losses Sh30 million a day whenever there are demonstrations," Ochieng said.

He noted that the country is polarised and there was a need for leaders to forge a united front to create a conducive environment for business and development.
