Police have arrested two women in relation to the manufacturing of illicit brew in Kiambu County on Saturday.

This is after a multi-agency team conducted an operation in the Gitaru area.

When they reached the homestead of one suspect in the Gitaru area, they seized assorted items including rolls of fake Kenya Revenue Authority stamps.

"We also recovered several boxes of suspected counterfeit alcoholic drinks with different brand names," police said.

Additionally, distilling machines and several empty boxes as well as bottle tops were recovered.

This comes as the government continue to intensify the fight against illicit brews and drugs and substance abuse among the youth in the country.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had asked Chiefs across the country to root out the drug abuse menace among the youth by arresting drug peddlers.

Speaking in Nyeri last week Wednesday, Gachagua said Chiefs should ensure there are no drugs in their areas.

"The war on alcohol and drug abuse is on and the government policy on that matter is very clear. I pronounced it very clearly on behalf of President William Ruto that chiefs and their assistants are incompatible with drugs and illicit alcohol," he said.

"In a location, we cannot have chiefs and illicit alcohol at the same time. One has to give way and since alcohol cannot make a decision because it has no mind, the person to make the decision is the chief. The Chief should decide if it is him who will stay in the location or the drugs."

Gachagua claimed that the Chiefs and other local leaders know where the drug dens are, adding that the local leaders even indulge the drug peddlers.

He said the chiefs are trying to protect drug peddlers from being arrested.

Gachagua has been very vocal on the fight against drug abuse in the country, saying it is destroying the lives of youth.
