Former Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has appeared to be warming up to President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government.
The ex-Jubilee MP was on Saturday pictured shaking hands with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Karen office.
With Wambugu were East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega and a host of Jubilee leaders.
The former Nyeri Town MP later posted a statement on social media platforms explaining the two factions in Jubilee.
“One faction is stuck in the past. It insists that we won the last elections and refuses to accept that elections over and there is a now another government legally in office,” he said.
He added that the faction wants Jubilee to do everything possible to ensure the Kenya Kwanza government fails, even if the nation suffers.
He added that the second faction accepted they lost the elections and there was a new government legally in office.
“This second faction will do everything possible to ensure this nation prospers including working with the Kenya Kwanza Administration to move Kenya where necessary,” he said.
“In coming days, we will do an internal referendum to determine which faction should lead the party onwards,” he added.
Jubilee has been rocked by infighting between two factions; one led by Kega and another led by former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni.
Kioni accuses the Kega-led faction of warming to rival Kenya Kwanza while Kenya insists Jubilee is disrespected and undervalued in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
On May 10, 2023, Wambugu asked retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to take a back seat on matters involving the Jubilee Party leadership.
In an interview on Spice FM, the ex-Jubilee MP said Uhuru’s efforts to maintain his position as the party leader would eventually cripple the party.
“He did his part and did a good job. He is just scared that the next leadership might go and work with Kenya Kwanza and that is a personal problem,” he stated.
Ngunjiri added that Jubilee needs to be steered by a leader who is currently active in politics.
