Tourism Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza on Sunday flew to Imbirrikani in Kajiado where six lions were killed on Saturday morning.

Malonza decried the killing of lions and other wildlife in the area as she called for dialogue between the Kenya Wildlife Service personnel and the Maasai community members.

The visit came one day after more than 10 morans killed six stray lions at a Manyatta in Mbirrikani ranch.

The lions had killed 11 goats and a dog before six lions out of eight were killed.

Malonza warned that all the culprits involved in killing the lions would be arrested and charged.

“The government will not tolerate such actions. We have an elaborate way of addressing such cases and we cannot allow the morans to act as they have,” she said.

The CS said the government will check carbon credit dealers to remove cartels in the Amboseli ecosystem.

“The KWS will support CSR such as the supply of water and the construction of schools for the community in the Amboseli,” she said.

Malonza urged the Maasai community to embrace ecotourism, such as conservancies and eco-lodges to reap the best from tourism.
