Atleast six people are feared dead after a bus they were travelling in was involved in a road crash near Kanyadhiang in Karachuonyo constituency.

The Friday accident occurred when a bus belonging to ACK Guu Secondary School overturned as its driver was trying to evade a head-on collision with an oncoming and speeding truck.

The bus was carrying over 30 people.

Residents said the driver lost control of the bus as he dodged the truck at Kanyadhiang junction It happened along Kanyadhiang-Pala road when the bus was negotiating a corner from Kendu Bay -Homa Bay road.

A witness Kenneth Abila said the truck was from Kanyadhiang-Pala road.

"Some mourners have also been injured and rushed to hospital. The truck was moving at speed," Abila said.

Rachuonyo North subcounty police commander Lydia Parteyie confirmed the incident saying the bus veered off the road before it landed on a ditch.

She said they are visiting the hospital to know the number of casualties.

Some injured persons were taken to Kendu Adventist Hospital and Rachuonyo Sub County Hospital for treatment.

"We have rushed injured persons to the hospitals for medical attention," Parteyie said.

She said her officers are on the ground to assess the situation.
