Radull to chair 'Talanta Hela' sports technical committee

Media personality Carol Radull has been appointed chair of the Sports Technical Committees in the newly established Talanta Hela Initiative.

In a gazette notice on February 6, 2023, Radull was appointed chair of the committee by Sports CS Ababu  Namwamba for a period of three years. 

Namwamba said the government plans to revitalise Sports and the Creative Economy through the revolutionary Talanta Hela initiative. 

"The term of the Sports Technical Committee is a period of three years," Namwamba said.

Olympic Javelin Champion Julius Yego has also been appointed as a member of the committee.

Other members of the committee include Boniface Ambani,Neddy Kutsuru, Alfred Makotsi, Sammy Tiyoi, Daniel Nakeor and Shariffa Ochieng. 

Namwamba said the duties of the committee shall be to consider and propose legislative and policy measures for the growth of sports.

He said they shall also support the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) in running a nationwide program for identifying, developing and marketing Kenya’s best sporting and creative talent from across all 47 counties.

The committee is also expected to "deploy the digital space in talent search, identification, nurturing and exposure."

Namwamba said the teams will establish a robust framework to monetize sports, expand employment opportunities and grow the economy.

"They shall manage the annual bottom-up football tournament for grassroot teams from all 47 Counties, with finals held during Jamhuri Day Celebrations in December," he said. 

The sports CS expects the committee to support programs and efforts aimed at getting the Harambee Stars to qualify for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

"..and the Harambee Starlets to participate at the 2027 FIFA Women World Cup as well the 2028 CAF Women Africa Cup of Nations," reads the notice further.
