Former Jubilee secretary general Raphel Tuju has revealed that ex-Education CS George Magoha was his cousin.

Tuju made the revelation during Magoha's funeral service at Consolata Shrine on Thursday.

"I served with Magoha in one cabinet but my relationship with him was different. It goes down to 83 years ago," Tuju said.

Tuju narrated that 83 years ago when his mother became an orphan, it was Magoha's mother ( Mama Sarah) who raised his mother.

Going further, Tuju said that no one knew the relationship he had with Magoha even his former cabinet colleagues.

He revealed that he never went to Magoha when he had a problem with the Ministry of Education but relied on the then PS for Basic Education Belio Kipsang.

"I can see former PS looking at me strangely when I say this. When I had issues with the Ministry of Education I never went to Magoha but to Belio.I never told you that your boss was my cousin," Tuju added.

The former Jubilee SG also noted that former head of public service Joseph Kinyua never knew of their family ties.

"I am glad Kinyua didn’t know maybe he would have not employed him if he knew," Tuju added.

After Magoha’s death on January 24, 2023, Tuju revealed that Magoha had complained of fatigue a day before he died.

According to Tuju, Magoha attributed the fatigue to the planning of his brother's burial.

"He was fine, he told me he was exhausted but that could be attributed to the running up and down organising for the burial of his brother whose body was arriving in the country," he said.

The two had even met the day before the tragic death and Tuju said his friend was in high spirits.

"I was in this house on Monday afternoon when we were discussing the funeral arrangements of Prof Nyabera, his brother," Tuju said then.

Tuju said that Magoha did not show any sign of having health challenges that they even sat and talked.

Magoha will be laid to rest at his home in Umiru, Nyamnina on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
