Public Service and Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has issued a stern warning to those flaunting the directive against Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in Migori.

The CS, while taking part in the commemoration of the International Day of Zero Tolerance to FGM, said that the Government will come for them.

"To all FGM cutters, whether you work at night, in broad daylight, in a hole or abroad, the long arm of the Government will reach you," she said.

Jumwa said that the people present should pass on the message to those still practising the harmful act that the Government was coming for them.

"Tell all FGM cutters, whether they are here or at home, that this is a new government with new agendas and FGM will not be tolerated," she said.

Migori is home to the Kuria who still hold fast to the tradition of female circumcision.

Girls are often circumcised during the holiday seasons when schools are closed and they are most vulnerable at home.

Just recently, 364 girls in Kuria were reunited with their families after escaping the mutilation.

The girls had taken shelter at Taranganya Girls Boarding Primary School in Migori county and Kubweye Girls Secondary School.

Migori county gender activists have been calling for the building of a rescue centre among the minority Kuria community as over 500 girls escaped FGM during the festive season.

"I am very grateful to the President because he is very vocal about FGM. He is very passionate about the anti-FGM fight," she said.

She said President William Ruto said there is nothing to be discussed or negotiated about the practice of FGM.
