The number of adults who sat the KCPE exams this year increased according to statistics from the Ministry of Education.
The statistics show that 62,310 adults sat the exams which represent 5.08 per cent of the total candidates' population.
Last year, the adults who sat the exams were 29,607, representing 2.42 per cent.
This year, Kilifi had the highest number of adult candidates at 7,340, an increase from last year's 3,304 candidates.
Kakamega county recorded the second highest number at 4,947 while last year they had 2,408.
Kwale county came third with 4,285 adult candidates compared to last year's 1940 candidates.
The statistics also show that all counties registered an increase in adult candidates from last year.
The results were released on Wednesday by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu at Mitihani House in Nairobi.
The statistics also showed that the number of candidates who were 12 years and below declined.
Machogu said that the number dropped from 33,627 (2.74%) in 2021 to 31,498 (2.53%) in 2022.
The CS said that the decline shows that children are enrolled in school at the right age.
