A man has been jailed for stealing an SGR metallic pole worth Sh30,000.

The suspect, Ali Badi Chumvi alias Swaleh Hussein, pleaded guilty before Justice Mutuku at a Mombasa court.

Chumvi also confessed to have been previously jailed for eight months for vandalising and stealing from the Standard Gauge Railway line.

While reading the sentence, Justice Mutuku said Chumvi's action was a threat to the safety of the SGR adding that he wasn't remorseful.

Chumvi's co-accused, Boniface Ngonda, pleaded not guilty and was released on Sh200,000 bond with one surety with an alternative Sh100,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on November 29 for pre-trial.
