Former Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba has been appointed the new Cabinet Secretary for Sports.

His appointment came to light after President William Ruto announced his new cabinet on Tuesday.

Ababu replaces Amina Mohamed who served in former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration following her appointment in March 2019.

Ababu has previously served in the docket under the late President Mwai Kibaki who appointed him in 2012.

His most notable achievement in office then was the enactment of the 2013 Sports Act.

He faces a herculean task of resolving the impasse between the government and the world football governing body, Fifa.

Fifa suspended Kenya from international competition after the government expelled the Nick Mwendwa-led Football Kenya Federation and appointed a caretaker committee to run football in the country last November.
