Meru MCAs who were opposing the BBI are now in support of the initiative.
Led by Majority leader Victor Karithi, the ward reps had two weeks ago said they were ready to reject the BBI report unanimously if a number of recommendations were not expunged and others suggested by Kenyans taken into consideration.
But the legislators on Monday attended the BBI signatures launch at the county commissioner's ground in Meru town, North Imenti, and appended their signatures. They were led by Karithi.
They had demanded that the allocation of Ward Fund be increased from five per cent of the county revenue allocation to 15 per cent. The also wanted county executives to be picked from the assembly.
They proposed more focus on war on Covid-19 and sourcing for miraa markets.
Asked why they had changed their position, Karithi said U-turns are allowed in politics as most of their demands had been included in the amendments.
