Kenya's cryptocurrency market has expanded rapidly over the past decade, with the number of users rising from just 10,400 in 2017 to an estimated 733,300 in 2025, according to Statista.
The steepest growth occurred between 2020 and 2024 as digital assets gained mainstream attention and more Kenyans embraced blockchain-based financial services.
The figures show crypto adoption accelerated from 86,690 users in 2020 to 253,200 in 2021 before climbing to 364,800 in 2022 and 493,500 in 2023.
Growth continued to 729,200 users in 2024, although the pace slowed in 2025 with an estimated 733,300 users.
The rise has been driven by growing interest in alternative investments, easier access to cryptocurrency trading platforms and increasing awareness of digital finance among young, tech-savvy Kenyans.
However, experts continue to caution that cryptocurrencies remain highly volatile and largely unregulated, exposing investors to significant risks.
Despite those concerns, Kenya remains one of Africa's leading cryptocurrency markets, reflecting the country's strong digital adoption and expanding fintech ecosystem.
