Which age group bets the most?/HILLARY BETT

Adults aged 25 to 34 are the most active bettors in Africa, according to the GeoPoll Betting in Africa 2026 report released on July 16.

The survey found that 45 per cent of respondents who participate in betting fall within the 25–34 age bracket, making it the continent's largest gambling demographic.

Young adults aged 18–24 accounted for 26 per cent, while those aged 35–44 made up 23 per cent.

Participation dropped sharply among older age groups, with just five per cent of respondents aged 45–54 saying they bet.

Only one per cent of those aged 55 and above reported taking part in betting activities.

The survey covered Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda, providing insights into gambling trends across six African countries.

The findings suggest betting remains largely driven by younger adults, reflecting high smartphone usage, widespread internet access and growing adoption of digital betting platforms that have transformed gambling into a mainstream form of entertainment across the continent.
