Copenhagen, Denmark, claims the top spot as the world's most livable city in 2026, scoring 98 out of 100 on the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Global Liveability Index.
The annual ranking evaluates urban centres across five core categories: stability, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and culture and environment, where a score of 100 represents the highest level of liveability.
European and Australian cities dominate the highest rankings.
Vienna, Austria, follows closely in second place with a score of 97, tied alongside Australian metropolises Melbourne and Sydney, which take third and fourth place respectively.
Switzerland and Japan also show strong representations in the top ten. Zurich and Geneva secure fifth and sixth places, both posting scores of 96.
Japan’s Osaka ranks seventh, followed by Adelaide, Australia in eighth, Vancouver, Canada in ninth, and Tokyo, Japan in tenth, all achieving matching scores of 96 out of 100.
