The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deployed thousands of teachers across Kenya over the past three years, with Kitui County receiving the highest allocation at 4,276 teachers.

According to TSC data, Kakamega followed closely with 4,270 teachers, while Bungoma received 3,806.

Nakuru ranked fourth with 3,656 teachers, ahead of Machakos (3,356), Makueni (3,252), Homa Bay (3,225), Kisii (3,206), Meru (3,204) and Narok (2,992), completing the top 10 counties.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Evaleen Mitei said the allocations were guided by factors such as the number of public schools, learner enrolment, expansion of junior schools and the severity of teacher shortages in each county.

However, she noted that receiving more teachers does not necessarily mean staffing needs have been fully addressed.

Many counties continue to grapple with significant teacher shortages due to rising enrolment, curriculum changes and the need to improve the teacher-to-learner ratio across public schools.
