Obtaining a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN has become a streamlined, digital-first process, specifically tailored for individuals who are not currently engaged in gainful or taxable activities but still require the identification number.

To begin this process, applicants should navigate directly to the official iTax portal at itax.kra.go.ke. Once on the platform, the next step involves selecting the option for "New PIN registration."

From the registration menu, users are prompted to designate their taxpayer type, where selecting "Individual" is the appropriate choice.

A critical distinction in this workflow is the selection of "PIN Without Obligation," which correctly categorizes the application for those not currently liable for tax returns.

With this setting confirmed, the system requires the entry of essential personal information, including identification documents, residential address, and contact details.

Security and verification are handled through an email authentication step, where users must confirm their identity using a One-Time Password (OTP) sent to their registered address.

Following verification, applicants must upload the necessary supporting documentation to validate their personal details.

Once all data is submitted, the final step allows the user to successfully complete the application and proceed to download their official PIN certificate directly from the portal.

This efficient, end-to-end digital journey ensures that any individual requiring a PIN for personal documentation purposes can secure it independently without navigating complex tax compliance procedures.
