As of February 2026, several counties in Kenya have been identified as high-risk zones due to elevated child malnutrition levels.
According to data from the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), the top eight counties facing this critical challenge are: Mandera, Kwale, Marsabit, Lamu, Turkana, Meru, Kitui and Kilifi
Child malnutrition is a condition occurring when a child fails to receive the correct amount of nutrients.
This imbalance results in poor growth, weakened immunity, or excess weight.
Monitoring these zones is vital for intervention.
