Several counties recorded high levels of teenage pregnancy in schools in 2025, according to the Gender Education Status Report 2025 by the National Gender and Equity Commission.

Kilifi reported the highest prevalence, with 71 per cent of surveyed schools recording at least one case.

Nairobi City followed at 67 per cent, while Narok stood at 64 per cent and Kajiado at 62 per cent.

Kwale reported 53.9 per cent, while Isiolo recorded 50 per cent. No cases were reported in Garissa and Wajir.

The report highlights teenage pregnancy and child marriage as persistent barriers to girls’ education, particularly in ASAL counties and informal settlements.
