According to the County Competitiveness Index (CCI) 2024 Report, several Kenyan counties demonstrate significantly low economic performance, quality of life, infrastructure, and attractiveness for investment.
The index, which combines these factors to assess overall competitiveness, identifies Wajir as the least competitive county, scoring only 13%. Following closely behind are Tana River at 14% and Garissa at 15%.
Other counties in the bottom ten include Marsabit (16%), Mandera (17%), West Pokot (20%), Samburu (21%), and a three-way tie at 22% between Migori, Homa Bay, and Elgeyo Marakwet.
These low scores highlight crucial areas for targeted development and investment to boost economic potential and improve the living standards and infrastructure across these regions.
Addressing these underlying deficiencies is key to improving the overall economic landscape in these counties.
