As Kenya mourns the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, top ODM leaders have paid glowing tribute to the man they fondly call Baba, hailing his courage, sacrifice, and lifelong devotion to the nation’s unity and democracy.
ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga described Odinga as a patriot who always put Kenya before himself.
“Whenever the fabric of the nation was at stake, he was quick to put personal interests aside and choose the path of unity,” she said, recalling the political turbulence of June 2024.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna honoured Odinga as “the leading political figure in this nation for at least three decades,” under whose mentorship countless democratic careers were nurtured.
ODM Deputy Leader Abdulswamad Nassir called Odinga’s legacy “a light on the path toward justice, unity, and democracy,” while his elder brother and Acting Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga urged Kenyans to mourn with dignity and celebrate his life.
Their tributes capture the profound sense of loss within ODM and the country at large — a recognition that Raila’s voice, both defiant and unifying, reshaped Kenya’s political conscience for generations.
