According to the WHO Global Report on Trends in Prevalence of Tobacco Use (2000–2024), an estimated 1.2 billion people worldwide use tobacco in 2024.
The data shows that men account for the majority, with 997 million users compared to 206 million women. Among all tobacco users, 992 million consume smoked tobacco, while 847 million use cigarettes specifically.
For men, 849 million smoke tobacco and 731 million use cigarettes. In contrast, 143 million women smoke tobacco, with 116 million using cigarettes.
Despite global anti-smoking campaigns, tobacco use remains a major health concern, highlighting the need for intensified control measures.
