Kenya’s mobile phone ownership shows stark regional disparities, according to the 2023/2024 Kenya Housing Survey.
Nairobi leads with 67.7% of residents owning phones, followed closely by Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a, and Kiambu—all above 60%.
In contrast, remote counties like West Pokot and Turkana report less than 30% ownership, with Marsabit, Tana River, and Samburu also lagging.
These figures, sourced from the Communication Authority of Kenya and KNBS, reflect unequal access to digital connectivity across the country.
The data underscores the need for targeted infrastructure and policy interventions to bridge the mobile divide
