A May 2025 survey by the Central Bank of Kenya has identified key factors affecting agricultural production.
Farmers cited unpredictable weather patterns, especially delayed rains, as a major challenge. High input costs, including fertilizers and animal feeds, have further strained operations.
Access to affordable credit remains limited, with many smallholder farmers struggling to finance their activities.
Additionally, pests and diseases continue to threaten crop yields. Poor infrastructure, particularly rural roads, hampers access to markets.
The survey also noted that political uncertainty and delayed government subsidies have discouraged investment.
These factors collectively threaten food security and the sector’s overall productivity.
