In Summary

A city lawyer has filed a court petition seeking orders to compel President William Ruto’s advisers to repay millions received in salaries and allowances, arguing that their appointments were made unlawfully.

In a case filed under a certificate of urgency, the lawyer contends that the creation and staffing of the advisory offices were carried out in violation of the Constitution and existing laws.

The lawyer has named 14 advisers in the suit, including Prof. Makau Mutua (constitutional affairs), Mr. Moses Kuria (senior economic adviser), Dr. David Ndii (chairperson of the council of economic advisers), Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani (senior adviser), Dr. Monica Juma (national security), and Joseph Boinnet (deputy national security adviser).

Others listed are Mr. Jaoko Oburu (economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods), Dr. Nancy Laibuni (associate member of the Council of Economic Advisers), Ms. Harriette Chiggai (adviser on women’s rights), and Prof. Abdi Guliye (livestock and rangelands management).
