Kenya’s military expenditure has continued to rise steadily over the years, hitting a new high of Sh166.1 billion in 2024, according to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
This marks a 12.7% increase from the Sh147.4 billion spent in 2023.
The upward trend in defense spending is consistent with Kenya’s efforts to enhance national security, modernize its military, and respond to evolving regional threats.
The country's military budget has grown from Sh118.8 billion in 2020 to the current figure, reflecting increasing investment in equipment, personnel, and operations.
