    In a report by KNBS, they highlight the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for food and non-alcoholic beverages between 2022 and 2023.

    Sugar, desserts, and confectionery experienced the highest price increase at 38.5 per cent, followed by vegetables, tubers, plantains, and pulses at 11.5 per cent.

    Cereals rose by 10 per cent, while milk, dairy products, and eggs increased by 7 per cent. Fish and seafood prices went up by 9.4 per cent, whereas oils and fats saw a 6 per cent decline.

    The annual average inflation rate also shows a steady increase from 5.2% in 2019 to 7.7% in 2022 and 2023. These statistics are based on the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Economic Survey 2024, reflecting the rising cost of living.
