President William Ruto's cabinet has approved a proposal to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
"This is a stepping stone towards the target of Harambee Stars qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in 2030," the statement read.
This will be alongside the East African Community partner states.
Cabinet noted that the joint bid would deploy the power of sports in furthering regional integration.
This means Kenya can now bid to host the AFCON, in partnership with the EAC community by writing a letter to the Confederation of African Football.
