A blog report by Venas News website indicating Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Presidential Running Mate Martha Karua disparaged Deputy President William Ruto over his religious beliefs is FAKE.

According to a video broadcasted live on the Azimio TV Facebook page, Martha Karua did not say those words.

The report misquoted Karua's reaction to the DP's emotional moment at a prayer service he organized at his Karen residence on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

While quoting Karua's reaction at a rally in Bukhungu on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, the blog post quoted remarks Karua did not say.

“I laugh when I see Ruto praying, what kind of God listens to a thief who thinks he is Deputy Jesus. What kind of God listens to a thief’s teary prayers. Any God that answers Ruto’s prayers, I Martha will not believe in Him," Karua said.

Fact checker has debunked the remarks and established that even though Karua seemingly attacked Ruto, she did not mention his name as quoted by the blog.

Also, the remarks by the blog post are not exactly what Karua said.

In an apparent reaction to the DP’s emotional prayer, this is what Karua said:

“Watu wawache kudai at wao ndio wakristo. Niwaeleze, Kwa kitabu takatifu, Bible, Yesu alisema sio kila mtu anaitana Yesu, Yesu ataingia kwa ufalme wa mbinguni. Ukristo sio jina, sio kwenda kwa kanisa na hata sio machozi. Wacha ukristo wako ujitangaze. Sio kwenda kujitangazia. Na Ujue, Jesus Christ has no deputy on earth,” Karua said

When translated to English, the remarks are not close to what the blog quoted.

"People should stop claiming that they are Christians. Let me explain, with the holy book, Bible, Jesus said not everyone calls Jesus, Jesus will enter the kingdom of heaven. Christianity is not a name, not going to church and not even tears. Let your Christianity proclaim itself. Not going to advertise. And know, Jesus Christ has no deputy on earth," reads Karua’s remarks after being translated by Google.
