Still on counties, a senior member of a county executive could soon be shown the door after the boss realised he has been shortchanging him on a certain deal. In the deal, a mole told Corridors of Power, the county chief was to get at least 10 per cent of all contract amounts released. However, when it came to the payment of some Sh20 million to a certain firm, the CEC decided not to hand over the special collection to his boss. The move caused tensions, with the governor reportedly mulling firing the officer.

So, how powerful is an aide of a certain Cabinet Secretary that he deliberately blocks senior officers from accessing his boss? Well, the officer has been deciding on the waiting list at the office and often openly tells off even government officials from accessing the CS. In the latest incident that caused tensions, the officer blocked a senior state official who had an urgent matter. Although he later claimed the officer did not have an appointment, he was reminded by the CS himself that government staff have unrestricted access to his office. A humbling experience indeed.

This is because of the surging popularity of the governor who has lately been holding a series of meetings across the county. The politician had over the last year been campaigning in funerals on how he is prepared to beat the governor in the next polls. He had even vowed to sponsor an impeachment motion to remove the chief. It was not until a few weeks ago that he got the shock of his lifetime after mourners at a funeral shouted him down, forcing him to cut short his speech.
