Just what happened to a former top state official just months after he left office? The loss of munificent perks, an awesome salary, power and pride. The man, it is rumoured, never shaves anymore and seems not to care about his grooming. The official, who always wore expensive designer suits and shoes now wears T-shirts and khaki trousers. He is said to have an unkempt beard and uncombed hair. He no longer hangs out in the posh restaurants he used to frequent when he was in power. The former official is said to be deeply stressed since he believed he would land a top job in the current administration.

MCAs from Western Kenya have supposedly rejected a candidate for a top position in the county after realising he is a close relative of the former governor. A little bird whispers to Corridors of Power the MCAs allegedly conspired and struck out the name of the candidate after learning of his links with the former county boss. An insider said there was more than meets the eye here. The MCAs reportedly did not remove the man’s name from the shortlist due to his relationship with the former governor but because the ex-county boss reportedly disdained them when he was in office.

A senior state functionary is discussed among journalists for always showing up late at events. The man is said to be as much as two hours late with little and sometimes no apologies. Whenever he shows up late, the excuse has always been that he was held up at a guarded residence in a meeting with a big man. And on the rare occasions, he shows up early, the officer will demand to speak first and be allowed to leave the event before it concludes to accompany the big man to other “national duties”.
