A boda boda in Baringo on Monday night set his house on fire and burned himself to ashes.
Baringo Central officer commanding police division Francis Gachoki said the incident occurred at Cereals estate in Kabarnet town around 11pm.
He said the 25-year-old victim, Alex Kibor alias Chebogel, set himself on fire in his father’s rented house.
“Police investigations are still ongoing to ascertain why he killed himself,” Gachoki said.
He said family members said the man started looking depressed days before the incident.
Felix Kiprop, a neighbour, said Kibor arrived home late, locked his door from outside before jumping in through the window.
“Minutes later fire broke out but it was difficult to break the security lock to rescue him,” he said.
He said the man stayed alone after he divorced his wife months ago.
“Sometimes he takes alcohol and rarely interacts with people,” Kiprop said.
Gachoki condemned the incident and urged residents to share their troubles with friends or family members in case they feel depressed instead of killing themselves.
He appealed to residents to report to the authorities any person showing depression signs to be rescued before committing suicide.
