President-elect William Ruto has poked holes into petitions filed at the Supreme Court of Kenya challenging his win in the August 9, polls.
In a 256-paged document, Ruto termed the petition, especially one filed by Azimio leader Raila Odinga, as a ‘shock and awe" strategy that signifies nothing.
“The petitioner's shock and awe strategy and a story full of sound and fury signifying nothing should not hoodwink the court into nullifying the election, not again!” He said.
Ruto said a time has come for the court and all Kenyans to tell the petitioners that lightning does not strike the same spot twice.
“The petitioners have produced falsified logs in support of their claims on the alleged external IP address and the alleged hacking of IEBC systems,” he said.
“The falsity of the logs resemble the logs that the petitioner submitted before this court in the 2017 election petition.”
He said the claims that he intercepted, staged, altered and dumped more than 11000 forms 34A within an incredibly short span of eight minutes are untrue.
“The allegation which is copy pasted from President Donald Trump's spurious allegations in 2020 incredibly suggests that I achieved the humanly impossible feat of intercepting, staging, altering and dumping an average of 23 forms 34 A per second,” he said.
“While on the matter, it begs the reason why any rational person would engage in the such alleged interception of more than 11000 only to steal less than 3000 votes.”
Ruto said Raila's 30-year pattern of strikingly similar acts after every presidential election is a means to force a handshake.
“The first distinct common feature that underlies the 1st petitioner’s thirty-year pattern of strikingly similar acts after every presidential election is disingenuous disputation of presidential results as a means of forcing the winner to share power through unconventional and extra-constitutional government arrangements popularly known as handshake,” Ruto said.
He said this happened after the 1997 elections, 2007 elections, and the 2017 elections.
Ruto said Raila has no genuine grievance against the conduct or result of the election but “merely wants to have another bite at the cherry through a judicially forced re-run.”
“It is against the public interest to keep the country in a perpetual electioneering mode,” he added.
Ruto said Raila has after every election led the political vilification and hounding out of office members of IEBC.
He listed Samuel Kivuitu-led Electoral Commission of Kenya after the 2007 elections and the Issack Hassan-led Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission after the 2013 elections.
