The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary partial closure of a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) to pave the way for highway maintenance works.
In a public notice issued by Director General Luka Kimeli on July 24, 2026, the authority said the affected section is between GTC and Kempinski on the Mombasa-bound lanes.
The partial closure will take effect from Friday, July 31, 2026, and remain in place until Monday, August 31, 2026.
KeNHA said the temporary traffic changes are necessary to facilitate maintenance works along the busy road corridor.
"This closure is to allow for highway maintenance works on the road section," the notice states.
The authority has assured motorists that traffic will continue flowing through the sections of the road that will remain open during the maintenance period.
It has also urged road users to consider alternative routes to minimise delays and ease congestion along Waiyaki Way.
"All motorists intending to use Waiyaki Way during this period will utilise the unclosed sections of this road as well as consider using alternative routes to ensure minimal traffic disruption," KeNHA said.
The authority further called on motorists to adhere to the traffic management measures that will be implemented at the site throughout the maintenance period.
Drivers have also been advised to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed to manage traffic and guide motorists through the affected section.
"Motorists are further advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," the notice says.
KeNHA said the temporary measures are aimed at ensuring the maintenance works are carried out safely while minimising inconvenience to road users.
The authority added that normal traffic flow along the affected section of Waiyaki Way will resume once the works are completed.
"Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works," KeNHA said.
The notice serves as an advance advisory to motorists who regularly use the Mombasa-bound lanes on Waiyaki Way, allowing them to plan their journeys and make use of alternative routes where necessary during the month-long maintenance exercise.
