Motorists using the Emali-Isineti (A5) Road will experience temporary traffic disruption for nearly three weeks after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced the partial closure of a section of the highway to allow for the installation of a drainage structure.
In a public notice issued on Friday, KeNHA said the affected section is located near Simba Cement and will be partially closed from Friday, July 24, to Thursday, August 13.
The authority said the works will facilitate the installation of a culvert across the carriageway at an existing natural drainage channel.
To minimise disruption, traffic will be diverted through a temporary route constructed alongside the affected section of the road.
According to KeNHA, the diversion will be approximately 100 metres long, with vehicles using it on an alternating single-lane basis throughout the construction period.
The authority has urged motorists to exercise caution while approaching the area and to strictly follow traffic management measures that will be in place during the works.
"Motorists are, therefore, advised to exercise caution, adhere to traffic signs, and cooperate with the police officers and traffic marshals on site," the notice states.
The temporary closure forms part of routine road infrastructure works aimed at improving drainage along the highway and ensuring the road remains safe and passable, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The Kenya National Highways Authority is the state corporation mandated to develop, rehabilitate, manage and maintain Kenya's national trunk roads.
The agency oversees major highways linking towns, counties and neighbouring countries, to improve connectivity, facilitate trade and enhance road safety.
The authority regularly undertakes road maintenance and infrastructure improvement projects, including the construction of bridges, drainage systems, road expansions and rehabilitation works to enhance the durability and efficiency of the national road network.
Motorists travelling along the Emali-Isineti corridor during the construction period have been advised to plan their journeys, remain patient while using the temporary diversion and cooperate with officers managing traffic at the site to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and the safety of all road users.
