The mysterious death of a 27-year-old woman found unresponsive in her Embakasi home has triggered a police investigation, even as detectives pursue another murder case in Kiambu County that sparked protests and led to the arrest of three suspects.
Police said Nicole Semba, 27, was found unconscious in her house on Sunday night after returning from a night event hours earlier.
Preliminary findings indicate she may have been attacked, although detectives are yet to establish the circumstances surrounding her death or identify those responsible.
According to police, the incident was reported by her husband, who told investigators he found her unresponsive when he returned home on Sunday evening.
Officers who visited the scene found Semba lying on a bed in a supine position. A preliminary examination revealed visible bruises on her head.
The husband told detectives that his wife had left the house on Saturday evening while he was asleep and returned at about 4 a.m. on Sunday appearing intoxicated. He said he later left her asleep in the house and, upon returning in the evening, found her still in bed and unresponsive.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene before the body was moved to the Nairobi Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said the cause of death has not been established, and investigators are working to determine where the deceased was in the hours before she returned home with the injuries.
In a separate incident, detectives have launched investigations into the murder of a 36-year-old man whose body was found dumped at Kimunyu Shopping Centre in Gatundu South Sub-County, Kiambu County.
The victim, identified as Samuel Muiruri Waogo, was discovered at around 11 p.m. on Sunday opposite Kimunyu Playing Ground.
Police said investigations indicate the man was killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the shopping centre.
Detectives noted that although the victim had deep cut wounds and marks around the neck consistent with strangulation, there was no trail of blood at the scene, suggesting it was a secondary crime scene.
The body was moved to the Gatundu Level 5 Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The killing sparked protests in the area, with about 30 youths barricading the Kimunyu-Gatundu road and lighting bonfires as they demanded justice for the deceased.
Police later engaged the demonstrators, who cleared the roadblocks, allowing traffic to resume.
Detectives have since arrested three suspects in connection with the murder as investigations continue.
