The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has disowned a fake advertisement circulating online claiming that it has opened applications to recruit 24,000 intern teachers for Junior Schools.
The poster, which bears the TSC logo and the Coat of Arms, purports to invite applications for a nationwide recruitment exercise to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
It lists application requirements, including possession of a TSC teacher registration certificate, and gives July 23 as the application deadline.
"The teacher internship programme is a one-year programme meant to equip and sustain competencies of persons entering the teaching service," part of the fake advert reads.
"The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching and exposure to practical teaching experience."
TSC dismissed the advert as fraudulent and urged members of the public to ignore it.
"Fraud alert: Please take note of this flyer circulating online regarding 'Vacancies for Teacher Interns in Junior Schools (July 2026).' Please be advised that this poster is FAKE," the commission said.
The latest alert adds to a growing list of bogus teacher recruitment adverts that TSC has been forced to debunk in recent weeks, as fraudsters exploit public interest in teaching jobs.
The fake advert has emerged as the government prepares to convert thousands of intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms from next year.
In the 2026–27 financial year, the National Treasury allocated Sh424 billion to TSC for teachers' salaries and a further Sh4.9 billion to facilitate the conversion of 20,000 intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms from January 2027.
Another 24,000 newly recruited intern teachers will be converted to permanent and pensionable terms from July 2027 at a cost of Sh8.2 billion.
The government says the exercise will raise the total number of teachers employed since 2022 to 116,000.
The conversion programme follows legal challenges to the internship policy.
Earlier this year, the Court of Appeal ruled that the Junior Secondary School internship programme was discriminatory and unlawful, directing TSC to place affected teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
The move also fulfils the government's pledge that intern teachers will serve for no more than two years before being absorbed into permanent employment.
