The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has dismissed as fake a recruitment advertisement circulating on social media claiming that it has opened applications to fill more than 12,000 teaching vacancies across primary, junior and senior schools.
The forged notice, branded with the commission's logo and official colours, alleges that TSC is recruiting 12,632 teachers to replace educators who exited service through natural attrition.
It alleges that TSC is looking to fill 8,400 vacancies in primary schools, 32 posts for academics and 4,200 posts for senior schools.
The fabricated poster invites applicants to submit their applications online before July 20, 2026.
It further claims that successful applicants would be employed on permanent and pensionable terms and outlines purported eligibility requirements.
A "FAKE" watermark has since been superimposed on the advert, signalling that the commission does not recognise the notice as an official recruitment announcement.
"Please be aware that the above circulating information on this poster is fake," TSC said.
The circulation of fraudulent recruitment notices has become a recurring challenge for the teacher employer, which has repeatedly cautioned job seekers against falling prey to fraudsters seeking to exploit prospective applicants through fake employment opportunities.
TSC continually maintained that all genuine recruitment exercises are communicated through its official platforms and that applicants are never required to pay any fee to secure employment.
The fake advertisement has surfaced at a time when the commission is expected to strengthen staffing levels in public schools through fresh recruitment during the 2026–27 financial year.
In the recently approved national budget, the National Treasury allocated Sh4.9 billion to facilitate the conversion of 20,000 intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms beginning January 2027.
An additional Sh8.2 billion was set aside to support the recruitment and subsequent conversion of 24,000 newly recruited intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms from July 2027.
The allocations are expected to help address teacher shortages in public schools while easing pressure brought about by increasing learner enrolment, particularly following the rollout of the Competency-Based Education system.
Prospective teachers have been urged to verify any recruitment announcements through TSC's official communication channels and ignore notices circulated through unofficial social media accounts or messaging platforms.
The commission has previously advised members of the public to avoid sharing personal information or making payments based on unverified job advertisements.
