As schools across the country battle for places at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Championships, this year’s competition has received a major boost after KCB Bank committed Sh20 million as the Title and Kit Sponsor.
The sponsorship comes at a critical stage of the Term Two Games, which are currently in the regional knockout rounds across all eight regions.
Thousands of student-athletes are competing in football, volleyball, rugby sevens, netball, basketball 3x3, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, chess, scrabble, cricket, lacrosse, beach volleyball and baseball.
According to KSSSA, the investment will support the purchase of playing kits and trophies, while also funding fan engagement and educational activations during both the regional and national competitions.
Of the total sponsorship package, Sh12 million has been allocated for kits and trophies, while Sh8 million will go towards activations during the championships running from July 6 to August 1, 2026.
KCB said the sponsorship reflects its commitment to nurturing the next generation of Kenyan sporting talent while promoting environmental sustainability in schools.
The impact of the sponsorship is already being felt as teams intensify their push for national qualification.
In Nairobi, Highway Secondary School booked a place in the regional boys’ football final after edging Starehe Boys Centre 1-0 in a tightly contested semi-final at Jamhuri High School.
Highway coach Daniel Mwaura praised his players for executing their game plan with discipline and maintaining focus throughout the match.
“The boys executed our game plan well and showed great discipline throughout the match. We knew Starehe would be a difficult opponent, but the players remained focused and took their opportunity,” Mwaura said.
“We are delighted to reach the final, but the job is not done. Our focus now is on winning the title and qualifying for the national championships.”
Highway will face either Olympic High School or Upper Hill School in Sunday’s final.
The KSSSA championships remain one of the country’s most important talent-development platforms, with many of Kenya’s elite athletes having begun their careers through the school games before progressing to clubs, universities and national teams.
Outstanding teams from this year’s competition will earn the chance to represent Kenya at the East Africa Secondary Schools Games.
