Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a 22-year-old woman was fatally stabbed while waiting to board a matatu at Nakuru Stage in Lari, Kiambu County.
The woman, identified as Mukuhi Tabitha Waithira, reportedly sustained a deep stab wound before desperately running to a nearby hotel in search of help, where she collapsed and died.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 5.
A witness told investigators that at around 5 a.m., he was asleep in his rented house opposite Nakuru Stage when he was awakened by a man shouting in Swahili, "Unaenda Nakuru?" Moments later, he heard a woman screaming for help.
He rushed outside and found a nearby hotel owner, who told him a young woman had arrived at the hotel's entrance while bleeding profusely before collapsing.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the woman's body lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained a deep stab wound to her upper left leg.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Waithira had been waiting at the stage to travel to Naivasha when she was attacked.
Despite her injuries, she reportedly managed to run towards the nearby hotel in a desperate bid to seek assistance but succumbed before help could arrive.
Police said the deceased was employed at Sanctuary Farm in Naivasha.
Crime scene investigators documented the scene before the body was moved to Uphome Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death.
Detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
