Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City is nearing completion, describing it as Kenya's first new international stadium to be built in almost four decades.

Following an inspection tour of the facility along Ngong Road in Nairobi on Tuesday morning, Kindiki said the project marks a major milestone in the country's sports infrastructure, noting that no international stadium has been constructed since the completion of Kasarani Stadium in 1987.

"The magnificent 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City along Ngong Road, Nairobi, is near ready," Kindiki said.

He described the stadium as "awesome in size and beautiful to behold," adding that it reflects the government's commitment to transforming the country's sporting landscape.

According to the Deputy President, the project's progress has been accelerated through round-the-clock construction and close supervision by personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

"The efficiency in timely completion has been boosted by the supervision of the contractor by Kenya Defence Forces personnel and the adoption of a daily 24-hour work schedule," he said.

During the visit, Kindiki interacted with workers at the site and commended them for their contribution to the landmark project.

"I inspected the works, greeted the workers and praised them for their role in building the nation, literally, with their hands and labour," he said.

Beyond Talanta Sports City, Kindiki said the government is constructing 31 other stadiums across the country, describing it as the largest sports infrastructure programme ever undertaken in Kenya.

"Thirty-one other stadia are being built across Kenya, and this is the most extensive sports development programme ever initiated in our country," he said.

He concluded by praising President William Ruto's administration for prioritising investment in sports infrastructure.

"Talanta ni faya sana. Pongezi Rais!" Kindiki said.
