‎The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has assured Kenyans of their safety ahead of anticipated Saba Saba demonstrations, while warning that officers will take firm action against anyone who exploits the protests to engage in criminal activities.

‎The agency said its priority remains protecting lives, safeguarding property and preserving peace across the country.

‎"Many Kenyans have stepped out asking these questions: Will the day be safe? Can I open my business? Can I take my children to school? Can life go on as kawaida?" the DCI said.

‎"Our duty remains the same: to protect life, safeguard property and preserve peace."

‎It acknowledged that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to move freely, assemble lawfully and express themselves peacefully, but cautioned that such freedoms should not be abused.

‎"However, that right must never be used as cover for looting, destruction, intimidation, violence or attacks on innocent wananchi and businesses," the statement reads.

‎The warning comes amid heightened security preparations ahead of planned protests within Nairobi and other major towns.

‎Security officers have since been deployed in key towns and cities to maintain law and order.

‎The DCI warned individuals planning to engage in criminal acts under the guise of demonstrations that they would face the full force of the law.

‎"To those intending to exploit the day for criminal acts, take note: our officers will be on the ground to maintain order and deal firmly with anyone who threatens public safety, destroys property or disrupts peace," it said.

‎The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security officers by reporting suspicious activities that could threaten public safety.

‎"As you go about your day, remain alert. If you see suspicious activity, criminal behaviour or any attempt to incite violence or cause harm, #FichuaKwaDCI," the statement said.

‎The DCI assured the public that reports can be made anonymously, encouraging Kenyans not to fear reporting crime.

‎"Reports can be made anonymously. Usiogope," the agency said.
