Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged Kenyans to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying the upcoming polls will provide citizens with an opportunity to determine the country's future through the ballot.
Speaking at a youth empowerment event in Machakos, Kalonzo urged eligible Kenyans, particularly young people, to ensure they are registered to vote before the August 10, 2027 General Election.
He said public participation in the electoral process is essential for strengthening democracy and enabling citizens to hold leaders accountable.
In his address, the opposition leader sharply criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of failing to uphold accountability and good governance.
"The levels of impunity, conflict of interest and outright theft in this government have reached an unacceptable level and simply, it is abhorrent," Kalonzo said.
He appealed to Kenyans across the country to unite and actively participate in the electoral process.
"I'm calling on all Kenyans who love this country to unite, continue to register as voters if you are not already done so. Ensure that in August next year, precisely on the 10th, because this date is written in our Constitution, we send a very clear message to economic to William Ruto," Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader argued that the country deserves leadership that is transparent, accountable and committed to serving the public interest.
"A government lacking in accountability and focused on theft, corruption and conflict of interest cannot be tolerated by the people of Kenya."
The remarks come as political activity continues to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election, with political parties increasingly focusing on voter mobilisation and grassroots engagement.
Opposition leaders have repeatedly encouraged eligible Kenyans to register as voters, arguing that meaningful political change can only be achieved through constitutional and democratic means.
The youth empowerment event in Machakos provided Kalonzo with a platform to engage young people on leadership, civic responsibility and participation in national affairs.
Young voters are expected to constitute a significant voting bloc in the 2027 elections, making voter registration campaigns a central feature of political mobilisation across the country.
As preparations for the next General Election gather momentum, Kalonzo's appeal underscores the growing emphasis among political leaders on civic participation.
His message sought to encourage Kenyans to exercise their constitutional right to vote, while framing voter registration as the first step toward influencing the country's leadership and direction through the democratic process.
