A multi-agency security operation in Narok County has recorded another breakthrough after the public voluntarily surrendered two illegal firearms and ammunition in Angata Barrikoi, highlighting growing public cooperation in efforts to improve security in the region.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the firearms were handed over on Sunday to a multi-agency security team conducting ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace, removing illegal weapons from communities, and enhancing public safety.
Authorities said the voluntary surrender demonstrates increasing trust between residents and security agencies, with communities playing a more active role in supporting efforts to combat crime and insecurity.
"The surrender marks another significant milestone in ongoing efforts to restore peace, enhance public safety, and eliminate illegal weapons from communities," the National Police Service said in a statement.
Police noted that removing illegal firearms from circulation helps reduce the risk of armed crime and violence while creating a safer environment for residents to carry out their daily social and economic activities.
"The recovery of the firearms contributes significantly to reducing the threat posed by illegal weapons, preventing their potential use in criminal activities, and fostering a safer environment for residents," the statement added.
The NPS urged individuals who are still in possession of illegal firearms to voluntarily surrender them at the nearest police station, saying the ongoing disarmament exercise is intended to strengthen security and protect communities.
The service reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining security operations through collaboration with other government agencies and continued engagement with local communities.
"The National Police Service remains committed to sustaining security operations, coordinating with other agencies, and engaging communities to ensure that all residents continue to enjoy a secure environment founded on partnership, trust, and shared responsibility," the statement said.
Police also appealed to the public to continue sharing information on suspicious activities through the emergency numbers 999 and 911, or anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free line 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
The latest recovery adds to ongoing efforts by
security agencies to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms in parts of
Narok County and strengthen peace and stability through community-led
cooperation.
