Detectives are investigating murder following the death of an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Murang’a Railways Police Station, whose body was found at a church compound in Siaya county.

The incident was reported on June 16, 2026, at about 11.30pm after locals alerted police of a body lying next to Last God’s Appeal Church in Rera village.

A team of police officers who visited the scene found the body of Inspector John Aduol, 55, the OCS of Murang’a Railways Police Station, lying within the church compound.

Investigators observed a fresh cut wound on his forehead, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object, with blood still oozing from the injury, prompting police to treat the case as a suspected murder.

The motive of the incident was not established.

It emerged Aduol had been granted time off from his duty station to seek specialised treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu after being referred from Tasia Hill Hospital in Embakasi, Nairobi.

He had been diagnosed with acute amoebiasis and septic wounds on his left leg.

However, instead of travelling directly to the hospital, investigators established that the officer travelled to his home area in Siala Kaduol and on June 13 proceeded to God’s Last Appeal Church for prayers.

According to police, the officer requested the church’s pastor, to allow him to stay within the church compound until June 20, when the church was scheduled to hold a crusade at Rera Village, after which he intended to return home to his wife in Siala Kaduol.

The pastor told investigators that on June 16 at around 10 am, he left the church together with two church officials to attend a funeral in South Gem, leaving the officer alone at the church.

When they returned at about 5 pm, they found Inspector Aduol lying motionless within the church compound.

They informed the police.

Police visited the scene and found the officer’s body lying on its left side. Police said there were no signs of a struggle, although the deceased had sustained a minor forehead injury believed to have resulted from a fall.

The scene was processed before the body was moved to Yala Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death are ongoing.

A team revisited the scene where the body was found as part of efforts to establish more on the same.

Occultism is among the theories in the probe, police said.
