While Tanui reaffirmed the importance of technology in education, discussions focused on the role of digital literacy in aiding foundational learning.

The two also discussed plans to expand access to quality education throughout the country

“Our discussions reaffirmed the importance of strengthening collaboration between the education and digital sectors,” Tanui shared on his X page, “to ensure that every learner, regardless of location or background, can access the tools, skills, and opportunities needed to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

Tanui expressed his gratitude for their engagement and promised their shared commitment to building a future-ready education system.

“Together, we continue laying the foundations for a smarter, more innovative, and globally competitive Kenya,” he added.

Ololtuaa, who previously served as Principal Secretary for Tourism, has taken office with more than three decades of experience in teaching, education administration and public service.

President William Ruto appointed Ololtuaa to head the State Department for Basic Education on June 9.

He replaced Julius Bitok, who was moved to the State Department for Tourism.

The changes were announced in a notification of presidential action issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei
